Frequently Asked Questions

What is talk therapy, and how does it work?

Talk therapy involves discussing your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with a trained therapist to help you better understand and manage them. It’s a collaborative process where we work together to address your concerns and develop strategies for personal growth.

What should I expect during my first session?

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other. I’ll ask about your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve from therapy. This session is about establishing a comfortable and open environment.

How long do therapy sessions last?

Typically, sessions last about 50 minutes. However, we can discuss adjusting the length based on your needs and preferences.

How often will we meet for therapy?

Most clients meet once a week, but the frequency can vary based on your goals and progress. We can adjust the schedule to what works best for you.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy depends on your specific needs and goals. Some clients come for a few months, while others may engage in therapy for a longer period. Some clients may also benefit from an intensive approach.

What is your therapeutic approach or style?

My approach is tailored to each client’s unique needs. I often use techniques from various therapy models, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, or grief-specific approaches, depending on your situation. I am also trained in ERP and EMDR.

What types of issues do you specialize in?

I specialize in providing therapy to therapists, high performers, individuals experiencing grief and loss, and those struggling with anxiety.

How can therapy help me with anxiety?

Therapy can help you understand the underlying causes of your anxiety, teach you techniques to manage anxious thoughts, and provide tools to help you cope with stress in your daily life.

How do you help people dealing with grief and loss?

In grief therapy, I provide a safe and compassionate space to process your feelings of loss, work through difficult emotions, and find a way to navigate life after your loss in a meaningful way.

Do you offer online or telehealth therapy sessions?

Yes, I offer telehealth therapy sessions, allowing you to attend from the comfort of your own space. This can be especially convenient for those with busy schedules or who prefer the flexibility of online therapy.

What makes therapy for high performers different?

Therapy for high performers focuses on managing the unique pressures of maintaining excellence, preventing burnout, and finding balance between achievement and personal well-being.

Do you take insurance, and how does payment work?

I accept certain insurance plans, and I also offer private pay options. We’ll discuss payment options and fees during our initial consultation.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. During our initial sessions, you’ll get a sense of my style and approach, and we’ll determine together if we’re a good fit for your needs.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. What we discuss stays between us unless there are concerns about your safety or the safety of others, in which case I’m required to take steps to protect you.

What should I do if I’m not sure what I want to talk about in therapy?

It’s completely okay not to know where to start. Therapy is a process, and we can explore your thoughts and feelings together to uncover what’s most important to address.

How do you handle therapist burnout in your practice?

For therapists, I offer a space to discuss the emotional toll of the work, process the challenges of client care, and develop self-care strategies to prevent burnout.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. We’ll go over the specific details of the cancellation policy during our first meeting.

Can therapy really help me, or should I just work through my problems on my own?

Many people find that therapy provides valuable insights and tools that they might not discover on their own. Therapy offers a structured, supportive environment where you can work through your challenges with professional guidance.

Can I contact you between sessions if I need support?

I generally encourage clients to bring issues to our scheduled sessions, but in case of an urgent situation, we can discuss how to handle emergencies or necessary contact between appointments.

How do you measure progress in therapy?

We’ll regularly review your goals and discuss how you’re feeling about the progress you’re making. Progress may be seen in improvements in mood, coping strategies, relationships, or general well-being.
