Telehealth: Therapy in Your Own Environment
For many neurodivergent and trauma-sensitive clients, the traditional therapist’s office can be a source of unintended sensory stress. From fluorescent lighting to the "social performance" of a waiting room, the environment can sometimes get in the way of the work.
By providing therapy through telehealth, I can help you bypass those barriers so we can get straight to processing.
The Clinical Advantage for EMDR & ERP
While I once believed therapy had to happen in person, I have found that my specialties—ERP and EMDR—are often more effective in a virtual setting.
-
Real-Time ERP: We can conduct exposures in the actual environment where your triggers occur—your home or office—rather than just talking about them in a clinic.
-
Virtual EMDR: Modern tools allow us to facilitate bilateral stimulation (the "processing" part of EMDR) in a way that is often more precise and less taxing than in-person methods.
-
Immediate Resource Access: We have digital tools, worksheets, and grounding resources literally at our fingertips, making our sessions highly efficient.

Sensory Control & Safety
Neurodivergent healing happens best when your nervous system feels safe. Telehealth allows you to:
-
Control Your Space: Use your own lighting, your favorite weighted blanket, or your most comfortable chair.
-
Reduce "Masking": Many clients find it easier to be authentic and open when they aren't navigating the "social cues" of a new physical space.
-
Stimming & Movement: You are free to move, pace, or use your own sensory tools without feeling "observed" in a clinical setting.

Eliminating the "Commute Tax"
For those with ADHD or high-functioning anxiety, the "transition time" required for an in-person appointment can be a major hurdle.
-
No Executive Function Drain: Eliminate the stress of traffic, parking, and time-management "buffers."
-
Privacy & Anonymity: There is no risk of running into someone you know in a lobby. Your therapy remains entirely within your private sphere.
-
Consistency: Whether there is a weather event, a minor illness, or a busy work day, telehealth ensures your progress isn't interrupted.
Is Virtual Therapy Right for You?
If you find face-to-face social settings intimidating, or if the physical act of leaving the house adds a layer of stress to your day, virtual therapy provides a less pressurized way to access high-level care. It combines the technical precision of evidence-based treatment with the comfort of your own home.
A Client's Perspective
on Telehealth
While I had seen Becky in person/office several years ago, I completed my EMDR treatment via telehealth/Simple Practice (virtually). I believe this modality was completely effective/successful despite some who may think that an in-person (office) meeting would be better.
I was able to discuss/walk through my trauma in the comfort of my safe space (my home) and the virtual connections worked just fine. It wasn’t clunky, it was seamless in that I was able to keep the “ball” on my computer while speaking with her, we transitioned from the desensitization part just fine.
I missed getting to give her a “thank you hug” at the end of session, but her smile and love were completely felt still. For anyone who is vacillating between wanting an in person and virtual session, I would recommend knowing why you have that personal preference. For example, if a person has high anxiety then perhaps the virtual session would work just fine/as successful because you can stay in your “safe space.”
Becky’s video/face and positive soothing energy still feels completely personal/real and that helps. I would absolutely recommend the virtual experience in this treatment and believe it is just as effective as in person/office.
